Mainely Rat Rescue (MRR) is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization founded in 2007 by four women who saw a need to save unwanted and often misunderstood, domestic pet rats. Having worked and or volunteered for animal shelters and other rescues, they had been using their available resources individually and were re-homing abandoned pocket pets. They decided to rally together, combining resources and sharing contacts, and are now the proud founders of Mainely Rat Rescue.
Mainely Rat Rescue’s mission is to rehabilitate and find homes for surrendered or abandoned domestic rats, as well as spreading awareness, education and support for this often misunderstood animal. While in foster care rats will be socialized with people and other rats, giving them the skills they need to make great companions. Proper food, housing and health care are provided to all rats until they find their forever home.
Mainely Rat Rescue is an all volunteer organization and does not receive funding from the state or any government agencies. MRR relies solely on donations and the revenue generated from our online store The Rat Roost and the MRR Food Store to support the animals in our care. All donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated.
Shipping Information: USPS Flat Rate boxes, called "Table Rate" on our shipping page, are $12.35 for a medium box (orders 5 or 10 pounds) and $16.85 for a large box (orders 15 pounds). For orders above 15 pounds, we ship through FedEx. You can estimate shipping by placing your items in your shopping cart and choosing the "estimate shipping" button in the shopping cart.
Picking Up Your Order: The Food Store is available for local pick-ups on Sundays between 9 and 5, by appointment only. Please strive to provide at least 24 hours' notice. Note that we are located in Malden, MA.
Vacation: We will be out of town June 11-18. We will leave the online store active so that you may order, however we will not ship food until our return on June 19th. We will also be unavailable for pick-ups on Sunday, June 16th.
